How to Install Mods on Your 7D2D Server

Learn how to install mods on your 7 Days to Die dedicated server and game client, including how to disable EAC.

Modding is a great way to breathe new life into 7 Days to Die. Whether you want quality-of-life improvements, new weapons, overhaul mods, or entirely new gameplay mechanics, this guide covers how to install mods on both your server and your local game client.

Downloading Mods

Mods can be found on sites such as Nexus Mods. Once downloaded, extract the mod archive so you have the mod folder ready to upload.

⚠️ Warning: Always make sure the mod you are installing is compatible with your server's 7 Days to Die version. Mismatched versions can cause crashes or prevent the server from starting.

Installing Mods on Your Server

Open the panel

Log in to the XGamingServer Panel and select your 7 Days to Die server.

Open Files

In the sidebar, click Files.

Upload the mod via SFTP

Using an SFTP client, upload the extracted mod folder into the /Mods/ directory. Each mod should have its own folder containing a modinfo.xml file. Your folder structure should look like this:

Mods/
  mod1/
    modinfo.xml
    ...
  mod2/
    modinfo.xml
    ...

Restart your server

Go back to Dashboard and restart your server.

💡 Tip: Type version into the server Console to verify your server version and see which mods are loaded.

Installing Mods Locally on Your PC

Most mods need to be installed on both the server and your game client. Mods that explicitly say "server-side only" do not need to be installed locally.

Navigate to your game files

In Steam, go to Library, right-click 7 Days to Die, select Manage, then click Browse Local Files.

Create the Mods folder

If a Mods folder does not already exist, create one in the game's root directory.

Add the mod

Extract the mod folder into /Mods/[ModName]. Each mod should be its own folder containing modinfo.xml and its related files:

Mods/
  mod1/
    modinfo.xml
    ...
  mod2/
    modinfo.xml
    ...

📝 Note: Only place the folder that directly contains modinfo.xml. Do not nest it inside an extra folder.

Disabling EAC Anti-Cheat

Many mods require Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) to be disabled on both your game client and server. The mod description will usually tell you if this is necessary.
