How To Change The Death Penalty On Your Palworld Server

Learn how to change the death penalty on your Palworld dedicated server. Configure what players lose when they die, from nothing to everything.

The death penalty setting controls what players drop when they die. By default, Palworld uses the harshest option where players lose all items and Pals. You can adjust this to create a more casual or more punishing experience depending on your server's style.

How To Change The Death Penalty

Open the XGamingServer panel

Access the XGamingServer panel and stop your Palworld server.

Go to Startup

In the sidebar, go to Startup.

Set the death penalty

Under the Player section, find DeathPenalty and choose one of these options:

Option	What happens on death
None	Players keep everything when they die
Item	Players drop all items but keep equipped gear
ItemAndEquipment	Players drop all items and equipped gear
All	Players drop all items, equipment, and Pals on their team

💡 Tip: For a casual PvE server, None or Item works well. For a hardcore survival experience, All keeps the stakes high. PvP servers often use ItemAndEquipment as a balanced middle ground.

Restart your server

Start your server from the Console page to apply the changes.
